Boca's Goalkeeper Responds to Criticism after Libertadores Exit

Boca Juniors goalkeeper Esteban Andrada responded to the criticism from former xeneize goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri following the team's elimination from the 2008 Copa Libertadores. Andrada defended his performance in the match against Atlético Mineiro, stating that the shot that resulted in the goal was not his fault, as the ball passed by him "a long way away."

In statements to the press, Andrada explained that the play was a shot from outside the area and that it was a great goal. He emphasized that the ball passed a great distance from him, so he could do nothing to stop it. In response to Abbondanzieri's criticisms, who had pointed out that the current Boca goalkeeper should have saved that shot, Andrada responded firmly.

"I always respect everyone, but in this case, the ball went by me a long way, so I don't know why he says that," the goalkeeper expressed. Andrada maintained his position that the goal conceded in the Copa Libertadores match was not his responsibility.

Andrada's comments came after Abbondanzieri publicly questioned the performance of the Boca goalkeeper in the match against Atlético Mineiro. The controversy between the two goalkeepers resurfaced as a result of the recent elimination of the Argentine team in the international tournament.
